The progression of the game
To begin the game, each player receives eight randomly dealt cards. The remaining cards are left in the deck (face down) on the table and will be used to draw from.
Only the “kick off card is placed to one side, face up, on the table.
A draw is made to decide which player begins (”player n° 1). This player will announce the kick off, pick a card from the deck (this will give him nine cards in his hand) and will immediately go on to attack.
The kick off card has two offensive actions indicated, “recovery/counterattack and “lineout. Player n°1 will choose from his hand and lay down one of these two cards. Let’s say “recovery/counterattack; he may then follow on by laying down a second card to choose among the offensive actions written on the card he just laid down : “kick ahead, “up-and-under, scissors pass or “cut out pass and thus continue this way to score points (drop kick, penalty) or try to score a converted, or unconverted try (see the difference between score and try to score in the scoring of points paragraph).
At any moment the player can choose to interrupt the series even if he has in his hand the cards to continue. He may have put down one, two, three, sometimes four or even five cards in a row (following the matching actions from card to card). If he makes a tactical decision to stop, or if he has no more matching actions to follow on with, he must pick from the deck enough cards to make up the eight cards in the hand.
However, he will now loose the turn to “player n°2.
Player n°2 will try to reverse the situation by carrying out a defensive action, before going on to the offensive. He will take the upper hand by choosing a defensive card among defensive actions written on the last card played by player n°1 (red background) and will place his card on the top of his opponent’s last cards. Having taken the initiative, he will continue his turn with one or several matching offensive actions, written on the last card played (green underground), card by card, until he scores points (drop kick, penalty) or tries to score a converted or unconverted try.
At the end of his offensive he must pick a number of cards from the deck to make up eight in the hand, and then, loose the turn to his opponent.
The alternating game continues; player n°1 is now the defensive and so on.
When defensive options are made of two cards, the cards must be laid down one after the other in the same order as indicated.
If one or the other players does not have any card to lay down, he must reject one, loosing the turn.
The rejected cards will form a deck. When the original deck is finished, the rejected cards, without being shuffled, will form the new deck. The game ends when this new deck is finished.
The winner is the player who has scored the most points.
